- Find alternative socially appropriate behavior for problem behavior
I have been in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis since 2012. Initially, I had no clue what to expect with the field of ABA. As I encountered each child over the years, I noticed how brilliant each kid was as well as the learning styles of many. From the lower to the upper end of the spectrum, the children’s skills were interesting to work with whether verbal /nonverbal or problem behavior/no problem behavior.
Why specialize in this? It was years ago when I worked with children while working on Master’s degree, there were always those children that were called upon, or that responded immediately, and those that were more socially advanced than most. But, with the children on the other end of spectrum that were not persistent with raising their hand, verbal, and less socially advanced showed major differences across learning. Our teaching strategies were shown to be beneficial in helping children communicate, function, and generalize their skills to their outer world. Some things that interest me on my free time when I’m not with the kiddos is being outside in nature. I like to ride my one wheel skateboard, hot yoga, and the beach.
